ekporeusis
In my gift-ontology, ekporeusis is a Greek technical term often used to denote the Spirit’s origin from the Father as sole arche or cause in the strict sense. It is helpful as a dictionary term because it clarifies that not all “proceeds from” language is being used with the same technical meaning across traditions. This approach respects the point that the Father is the unoriginated arche and that certain Greek usages reserve ekporeusis for that. It also notes that “through the Son” language can be affirmed in a way that does not compromise the Father’s monarchy, provided it is not turned into a second cause. Ekporeusis therefore belongs as a precision tool: it helps keep “fromness” language monarchy-safe and simplicity-safe.
