Prayer for the First Week of Lent

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Leader: Heavenly Father, as we journey through this sacred season of Lent, we thank You for Your eternal covenant of love and faithfulness. In the story of Noah and Your covenant with all creation, we see Your promise of salvation and hope. As we reflect on Jesus’ temptation in the desert, we are reminded of the spiritual battles we face and the strength found in Your word and sacraments.

Leader: Lord Jesus Christ, You overcame temptation by the power of Scripture and unwavering trust in the Father. Teach us to rely on Your word and to find our strength in prayer, fasting, and penance. May the Eucharist nourish us, and Baptism renew us, as we seek to follow You more closely.

Leader: Holy Spirit, guide us in our Lenten journey. Help us to recognize the areas in our lives in need of conversion and to respond with a sincere heart. Illuminate our path with Your light, that we may see clearly the way to deeper communion with the Father through Jesus Christ.

Leader: Together, as a community of faith, we pray for all catechumens and candidates preparing for the Sacraments of Initiation. Strengthen their resolve, deepen their faith, and fill them with Your love and grace, as they prepare to join us at the table of the Lord.

All together: Lord God, as we gather in Your name, unite us in the bond of Your covenant. May our Lenten observance draw us closer to You and to one another in faith, hope, and love. Grant that, through our Lenten journey, we may grow in understanding of the riches hidden in Christ and, by worthy conduct, pursue their effects.

Leader: We entrust our prayer to You, through the intercession of Mary, our Mother, and all the saints, confident in Your mercy and love.

Amen.

All together: Glory Be to the Father

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
